‘Aircraft Parts Manufacturing’ Dawin Friction Participates in U.S. Supernal’s ‘UAM Brake Development’

Dawin Friction Co., Ltd., an aircraft parts and development manufacturing company, is participating in the development of UAM brakes by Supernal, an independent U.S. corporation of Hyundai Motor Group's Urban Air Mobility (UAM).

 

Dawin Friction Co., Ltd. announced on the 10th that it signed a business agreement with Hyundai Wia and Supernal on the 9th to develop wheels (nose wheel, main wheel) and electric brake assembly, which are components of the UAM landing system.

 

Hyundai Wia signed a business agreement with Supernal on the 18th of last month to develop a UAM landing system. Under this agreement, Hyundai Wia will develop a ‘wheel-type landing system’ for use in prototype UAM and mass-produced UAM by 2028.

 

Lee Beom-joo, vice president of Dawin Friction Co., Ltd., said, “The technical requirements of UAM are similar to those of helicopters,” and added, “We plan to utilize our track record of developing helicopter wheels and brake systems for the past 20 years in this research.”

 

Currently, Dawin Friction Co., Ltd. is developing wheels and brakes for domestic Surion (KUH) helicopters and light armed helicopters (LAH) and supplying them to Korea Aerospace Industries (KAI) for mass production.

 

Dawin Friction also exports wheels and brakes to Bell in the US, Leonardo in Italy, and TA in Turkey.

 

Meanwhile, Dawin Friction Co., Ltd. is participating in the 'Incheon Free Economic Zone' of the '3rd K-UAM Confex', which is being held for two days from the 9th at the Paradise City Hotel in Jung-gu, Incheon, hosted by Incheon City and the Aerospace Industry-Academia Convergence Institute.
