For the first time in Korea, we decided to promote the ‘localization of parts for civil aircraft’, and on October 31, 2019, we signed an agreement with the Korea Evaluation Institute of Industrial Technology (KEIT).

Related institutions include Incheon Technopark, Korea Institute of Industrial Technology, STX Aeroservice, Formetal Co., Ltd., Inha University, etc. These institutions plan to jointly participate in R&D.

Incheon City announced on the 3rd that it will promote the localization of civil aircraft parts for the first time in Korea with leading aviation companies and local research institutes.

Dawin Friction Co., Ltd., one of the 19 regional aviation leading companies designated by Incheon City, signed a task agreement with the Korea Evaluation Institute of Industrial Technology on October 31st to ‘develop brake parts for a 200-seater civil aircraft’.

In the meantime, we have been developing and supplying wheel and brake assemblies used in air force trainers, helicopters (Surion, LCH, US BELL 525), and secondary trainers of the Italian Air Force, focusing on military aircraft in Korea.

However, in the field of civil aircraft, parts development and actual flight tests of developed products have never been promoted. This R&D project has a symbolic meaning in that an Incheon company is attempting to develop parts for civil aircraft for the first time in Korea.

Domestic airlines such as Korean Air, Asiana, and LCC (low-cost airline) import all brake parts, which are consumable parts for brake maintenance.

In particular, Incheon Technopark (ITP), a government-funded institution participating in this project, will oversee the application tasks following the official aviation parts certification process through ground equipment tests and aircraft installation tests.

This is also the first attempt in Korea, and it is expected to serve as an important opportunity for the full-fledged development of localization of civil aircraft parts in the future.

The city plans to donate the flight test certification budget (worth 2 billion won) to Incheon Technopark in order to foster the local aviation industry and secure the ability to acquire certification for aviation parts.”
