Dawin Friction Co., Ltd. is promoting the development of brake pads for civil aircraft and US FAA certification. During this development, aircraft braking performance testing was conducted at the US Air Force Research Laboratory (Wright Patterson AFB).

In addition, in 1987, Daewoo Heavy Industries (Dawin Friction was separated from Daewoo in 2003) developed the first brake for the F-5 fighter in Korea, and passed the certification test at the US Air Force Research Institute 35 years ago, and as of today Until now, Dawin Friction Co., Ltd. is supplying brakes for F-5 fighters to the Korean Air Force.

As such, the US Air Force Research Institute had a great influence on the history and development of brakes in Korea.

Due to this relationship, from October 26 to 27, 2022, the Korea Institute of Industrial Technology and Dawin Friction Co., Ltd. jointly held a technical seminar and technology exchange meeting by inviting test manager from the US Air Force Research Institute's Landing Gear Test Laboratory (Wright Patterson AFB).

The content of the seminar was to introduce test facilities (landing gears, wheels, brakes, tires, etc.) of American research institutes and to explain data on SAE test standards.

Participating institutions were public institutions such as the Korea Agency for Infrastructure Technology Advancement, Korea Aerospace Industries Association, Korea Aerospace Research Institute (KARI), Korea Institute Aviation Safety Technology (KIAST), Air Force Aeronautical Technology Research Center, National Defense University, Korea Institute of Industrial Technology, Institute of Aerospace Industry-Academy Collaboration.

Company such as Korea Aerospace Industries (KAI), Hyundai Motor Company, Hyundai Wia, and Deck Carbon attended.

It was a meaningful event where experts related to landing gears and brakes in the domestic aerospace industry gathered together, and it was a meaningful event to ask questions about technology directly to experts from the US Air Force Research Institute and to discuss the possibility of using test facilities.

In addition, we agreed to use this meeting as a starting point to continue to create a place where domestic landing gear/brake experts meet and discuss.
